Barry W. Johnson
Chairman

Barry Johnson is a founder of Privaris and is responsible for the overall strategic vision for the company. He is also a Professor in the Charles L. Brown Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Virginia where he has spent the past 22 years creating new concepts in computer dependability and security. He has worked extensively with startup companies throughout Virginia in coordination with Virginia's Center for Innovative Technology and through his role as a director of a state-funded technology innovation center. Prior to joining the University of Virginia, he was with Harris Corporation where he designed and analyzed fault-tolerant computer systems for aerospace applications. He is the author of two books, eight book chapters, and more than 150 articles. Dr. Johnson is a past member of the IEEE Board of Directors and the IEEE Computer Society Board of Governors and Executive Committee. He served as the IEEE Computer Society's President in 1997 and is an IEEE Fellow for his contributions to fault-tolerant computing. Dr. Johnson holds B.S., M.E., and Ph.D degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Virginia.

Wayne L. Hunter
Director

Wayne Hunter is Managing Partner of Harbert Venture Partners (HVP), a venture capital fund focused on early stage growth companies in the information technology and life sciences industries in the Southeastern U.S. HVP is an affiliate of Harbert Management Corporation, an investment management firm focusing on alternative asset classes with approximately $5.0 billion under management.

Prior to joining Harbert, Mr. Hunter was Managing Director and Head of Wachovia's Technology Investment Banking Group. In addition, Mr. Hunter was a member of First Union's Private Equity/Venture Capital Fund Investment Committee and served on First Union's Investment Banking Management Committee. Prior to First Union's acquisition of Wheat First Butcher & Singer in 1998, Mr. Hunter was the founder, Managing Director and Group Head of Wheat's Communications and Technology Group and a shareholder of Wheat. Mr. Hunter has more than nineteen years of experience working with leading entrepreneurs and venture capitalists in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. In addition to Privaris, Mr. Hunter currently serves on the Boards of Harbert portfolio companies Airimba Wireless, BroadSource, TapRoot Systems and Unitrends.

Mr. Hunter received a J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law and a B.S. from Auburn University.

Ernest S. Knighton
Director

Ernest Knighton is a successful North Carolina based technology venture developer, investor, and management advisor. Formerly a career textile manufacturing industry executive, Mr. Knighton has played a major role in the evolution and growth of some of the most successful technology companies in the Southeastern U.S. He is also a principal backer of the Northeast North Carolina Technology Partnership, an initiative sponsored in part by the State of North Carolina Department of Economic Development. Ernest Knighton is an alumnus of Clemson University.

Edward C. McCarthy
Director

Ed McCarthy is a Principal with River City Capital Funds. He entered the venture capital industry in 1984 and joined the River Cities' team in 1999. He heads River Cities' Raleigh office where he maintains an extensive network of contacts through the Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states. During the five years before joining River Cities, Mr. McCarthy served as executive vice president and director of the corporate general partner of Blue Ridge Investors of Greensboro, North Carolina. Previously, Ed was a principal with Atlantic Ventures Partners, which had offices in Virginia and North Carolina. He began his career in the Information Systems Sector of the Harris Corporation in Melbourne, Florida. Initially serving as a design engineer, his responsibilities grew through a sequence of engineering management and product-line management positions.

He has extensive experience on a number of boards of directors of private and public companies. He previously served as a member of the Board of Governors of the National Association of Small Business Investment Companies.

Mr. McCarthy received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University, an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the Florida Institute of Technology, and an MBA from Stetson University.

Charles Johnson
Director

Chuck Johnson is a General Partner with Noro-Moseley Partners (NMP). Mr. Johnson was a co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Sales Technologies, Inc., a start-up software company which was the most successful investment made by NMP I. Sales Technologies computerized the sales function of major corporations by utilizing laptop computers with the Company's proprietary software.

The Company was acquired by Dun & Bradstreet in January 1989, and Mr. Johnson continued in his role as CEO through early 1992 under the terms of the purchase agreement. During his tenure, Sales Technologies' software and service revenues grew from no revenue as a start-up in 1983 to $50 million in 1991.

Prior to founding Sales Technologies, he was a management consultant with McKinsey & Company and, previous to that, held a number of sales and marketing management positions with Procter & Gamble. Chuck joined NMP in 1993.

Chuck received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Duke University.

Ransom Parker
Director

Ransom Parker is a Managing Director with REDSHIFT Ventures. He has led investments in several REDSHIFT portfolio companies. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Blue Ridge Networks, Converged Access, Novariant, Privaris, Telarix and Xytrans. Former portfolio companies include Cronos Integrated Microsystems (acquired by JDS Uniphase), Sandburst (acquired by Broadcom), MSI Software (acquired by AtStaff) and V3 Systems (acquired by Click Commerce).

Before joining RedShift in 1998, Mr. Parker was president, chief operating officer and director of the AFFINITY Systems Division of The Compucare Company (acquired by Quadramed), a healthcare information systems software developer. He spearheaded AFFINITY's successful transition from an outsourcing and services business model to an enterprise class software product delivery and support model. He also worked to secure a $32 million private equity placement and two business acquisitions. Prior to The Compucare Company, Mr. Parker was the Mid-Atlantic regional operations manager for Shared Medical Systems Corporation (acquired by Siemens AG) and he held progressively more responsible executive management positions with Technicon Data Systems (acquired by Eclipsys).

Mr. Parker received a B.S. in biological sciences from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a M.H.A. in healthcare administration from The George Washington University.

John D. Petze
Director

John Petze is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Privaris.  Mr. Petze previously served for six years as President and Chief Executive Officer of Tridium Inc., a global software company specializing in device-to-enterprise applications.  Tridium saw great success under Mr. Petze’s leadership and was acquired by Honeywell International in late 2005.  He is an experienced technology executive, having held the position of CEO, CTO, VP of Marketing and Product Management, VP of Product Development and VP of Operations. He possesses a strong technical background and extensive experience in new product development and the development of marketing programs and customer support organizations. His experience spans hardware and software development, automation systems, networking and Internet technologies. Mr. Petze has served in a variety of senior technical and management positions with manufacturers of hardware and software in his 25-plus year career. He is a cum laude graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, MA, is a frequent speaker at industry trade events and has authored numerous technical papers.

John M. Paris Jr.

John Paris is the leader of the Venture Capital and Private Equity team at the Virginia-based law firm of Williams Mullen. His corporate and securities experience includes assisting public and private companies in buying and selling businesses and obtaining capital to finance their operations. Mr. Paris has more than 17 years of experience representing U.S. corporations in public and private offerings of securities. He is the immediate past president of the Virginia Venture Capital Forum and a member of the board of directors of Virginia Beach Vision. A frequent speaker, he has lectured on securities and mergers and acquisitions matters to numerous groups, including bar and trade organizations. He was the youngest business lawyer included within those named Virginia's "Legal Elite" by Virginia Business magazine. A member of Phi Beta Kappa, Mr. Paris graduated with high distinction from the University of Virginia in 1981. He graduated from the School of Law at the University of Virginia in 1984.
